Woody Mack Akers, age 79, of Shelbiana, KY., passed from this life, Wednesday, September 18, 2019. Woody was born to the late McKinley and Melissa “Little” Akers in Pikeville, KY.

Besides both parents, Woody is preceded in death by brothers, James Akers, Allen Akers,
Bruce Akers, Jack Akers, Clifford Akers and Bill Akers; sisters, Wanda “Dot” Justice
Ruth Hooper and JoAnn “Sis” Cunningham.
Woody is survived by his loving wife, Mabeline Ray Akers; daughters, Pamela Michelle Newsome, Kimberly Denise Thacker and her husband, Arnold “Bebo” and Lisa Renee Akers; grandchildren, Zachary Akers, Dustin Hamilton, Samantha Thacker and Erica Tackett, great grandchildren, Addilyn Thacker ; one sister, Thelma Adams, one brother, Scotty Akers; many nieces, nephews, countless friends and all the Parkview caregivers.
Woody adored his family, pets and was a known woodworking hobbyist. Many of Woody’s custom wooden vehicles can be found with various people. Woody knew that these individuals would enjoy looking at this amazing talent as much as he enjoyed making them. Woody also took a hobby in restoring bicycles and loved radio flyer wagons. Woody had his hands in so many different endeavors. Woody was apart of the Fraternal Order of Police. Woody was a chosen Kentucky Colonel. He was an active constable for District Four, for nine years, and was so proud of this title. Woody worked in so many different fields and enjoyed every day. He was a construction worker, he was a wrecker service owner, truck driver, worked in Samoyed Mining and was a Deputy Sheriff for over twenty-five years.
Woody was treasured and loved by everyone. He will certainly be missed by all.
The family will accept friends at Thacker Memorial Funeral Home, Friday, September 20, 2019, at 6:00 PM and all-day Saturday, September 21, 2019, with services nightly at 7:00 PM. Funeral services will be Sunday, September 22, 2019 at 2:00 PM at Thacker Memorial Funeral Home with burial following at Annie E. Young Cemetery. Ministers officiating services for Woody will be Faith First Baptist on Friday night, Jimmy Jack Adkins with Greasy Creek Freewill Baptist Saturday night, and others will officiate the funeral.
